How can we help?
Answers to the questions people ask most about Tandem, from connecting your first Google account to cross-posting and booking links.
Getting started
How do I get access to Tandem?
Tandem is in an invite-only beta. Request access and we'll email you an invite. Once your email is on the list, sign in from the log in page.
How do I sign in? Is there a password?
There's no password. Enter your email on the log in page and we'll send you a one-time sign-in link. You can add more sign-in emails to your profile in Settings, so any of your addresses works.
What happens the first time I sign in?
A short setup walks you through connecting your Google accounts, choosing a username for your booking page, and picking how events should be copied between accounts. You can change all of it later.
Which calendars does Tandem work with?
Google Calendar, both personal Gmail and Google Workspace accounts. Microsoft Outlook calendars are coming soon.
Connecting Google accounts
How do I connect another Google account?
Choose to add an account in Tandem, sign in to that Google account and allow calendar access. Each account gets its own name, colour and logo, which you can edit on the account's page.
Google showed a checkbox. Do I need to tick it?
Yes. Google's consent screen has one box for calendar access, and Tandem can't work without it. If it's left unticked, Tandem tells you and asks you to try again. Tandem uses the access to read your calendars and to create bookings, cross-post copies and holds; it only ever edits or deletes events it created.
An account says it needs reconnecting. What do I do?
This means Google access expired or was revoked (for example, you changed your Google password or removed Tandem in your Google account). Open the account in Tandem and click "Reconnect Google", then sign in to the same Google account. Your settings are kept.
Why are some calendars switched off?
When you connect an account, Tandem turns on your primary calendar and calendars you own. Colleagues' calendars shared with you and subscriptions (like public holidays) start off, so their meetings don't show as your conflicts or block your availability. Turn any of them on or off in Settings under Calendars to sync.
How do I disconnect an account?
Open the account and use Disconnect at the bottom. Tandem asks Google to revoke its access and deletes that account's cached calendars and events, along with booking pages and links that use it. Nothing in your Google Calendar is deleted, so turn off cross-posting to that account first if you want its copies removed.
Agenda and conflicts
What does the agenda show?
The next 14 days across every included calendar of every connected account, in your time zone, colour-coded by account. If the same invite is on more than one of your calendars, it appears once.
What counts as a conflict?
Two events that overlap and come from different accounts. Overlaps within a single account aren't flagged, because that calendar's own app already shows them.
How often does Tandem sync?
Automatically about every 10 minutes. Click "Sync now" on the agenda to refresh straight away.
How do I change my time zone?
Tandem picks up your browser's time zone on your first visit. You can change it any time in Settings.
Booking links
How do booking links work?
Your booking page lives at your username and lists your event types, grouped by account. Each event type has its own link. Invitees pick a time that's free across all your connected calendars, enter their details, and the meeting is added to the calendar of the account that event type belongs to.
What do invitees see?
Your name, the event's name, duration, location and description, and the times you're available, in their own time zone (which they can change). They never see your other events or which calendar made a time busy. After booking they get a confirmation with options to add it to their calendar and a link to reschedule or cancel.
Does it add a video link?
Yes, if you choose Google Meet as the location, Tandem creates a Meet link with the booking. You can also use a phone number, an in-person address, a custom location, or ask the invitee. Zoom is coming soon.
Can I stop people booking at the last minute or back to back?
Yes. Each event type has minimum notice, buffers before and after, a daily limit, how far ahead people can book, and start-time increments. You can also offer several durations and add your own questions.
Can more than one person book the same slot?
Yes, with a group event type: set the maximum number of invitees, and optionally show how many spots are left.
Availability
How do I set my hours?
Create a schedule in Availability with your weekly hours. Each day can have several time ranges, and each schedule has its own time zone. Event types use your default schedule unless you pick another.
Can I block out a specific day or change hours for one date?
Yes. Add a date-specific override to change or remove hours on particular dates, and choose a country to mark its public holidays as unavailable.
Which calendars count as busy?
Busy events from every included calendar on every connected account, plus your Tandem bookings. Events marked free, all-day events, declined invites and Tandem's own cross-post copies don't block time. Just before a booking is confirmed, Tandem checks Google again so a time that was just taken can't be double-booked.
One-off links and polls
What's the difference between a one-off link and a poll?
Both let you hand-pick a few times on a week view that shows all your calendars. A one-off link lets one person book one of those times. A poll lets several people vote on the times that suit them; you then book the winning time.
What does "reserve times" do?
It adds a "Hold" event to your calendar for each time you offered, so nothing else gets booked there. No invitations are sent. The holds are removed once a time is booked, or when you close or delete the link.
Can voters see each other's votes?
Only if you leave visible votes on. Then voters see other voters' names next to the times they picked, but not their email addresses.
Cross-posting
What is cross-posting?
Tandem copies events from one account onto your other accounts' calendars, so colleagues in each place see when you're busy. You set a rule for each pair of accounts: off, "Busy", a neutral placeholder title, or full details.
Will my colleagues see what my meetings are about?
Not unless you choose full details. Copies are private by default, have no attendees and send no notifications. You can also skip free, all-day or declined events, and exclude events whose titles contain certain words.
How do I stop cross-posting and remove the copies?
Go to Settings, then Cross-posting, and set the rule to Off. Tandem deletes the copies that rule made on its next run. It only ever deletes copies it created.
Will Tandem ever change my other events?
No. Tandem tags every event it creates, and only updates or deletes events with that tag.
Automations and email
What can automations do?
Send an email when something happens: a reminder before a meeting, a thank-you or follow-up after, resources when someone books, a reconfirmation request, or a note to someone else when a meeting is cancelled. Start from a template and edit the text with variables like the invitee's name and the meeting time.
Are reminder emails being sent?
Email sending is rolling out during the beta. You can set up automations now; if email isn't switched on yet, the app shows a banner and those emails aren't sent. Google still sends its usual calendar invitation when someone books.
Are SMS reminders available?
Not yet. SMS reminders are coming soon.
Account and billing
Does Tandem cost anything?
Not during the beta. Beta members get Pro free for at least 6 months, and we'll give advance notice before any paid plan applies. See pricing.
Can I change my booking username?
Yes, in Settings. Links with your old username stop working, so share the new one.
How do I delete my Tandem account?
Disconnect your Google accounts, then email hello@tandem.page and we'll delete your profile and everything linked to it.
Privacy
What does Tandem store about my calendars?
Event metadata (title, time, location, busy or free, your RSVP) for about 7 days back and 60 days ahead. Event descriptions and attendee lists aren't stored. Read the Privacy Policy and Security page for details.
Do you sell my data or show ads?
No. We don't sell data, show ads or use third-party analytics, and we don't use your Google data to train AI models.
How do I remove Tandem's access to Google?
Disconnect the account in Tandem, or remove Tandem at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Still stuck?
Email hello@tandem.page and a real person will get back to you.
